Serials digitisation programme
The BDI Guide Committee identified serials as another sector to
intervene for digital activities coordination, for duplication
interventions’ prevention, for new users services
development, and for obsolescence materials’
protection.
A workgroup with the task of the elaboration of the guidelines for
institutions working in serials digitisation projects and libraries
use has been created.
This workgroup elaborated a document to be presented in the next
Guide Committee meeting. The document will contain the criterions
for the choice of digitisation materials, the aims of the
intervention, the preservation, acquisition, and register forms,
standards and metadata schema to use.
In particular, the workgroup individuated in MAG (administrative
and operational metadata) standard, elaborated by the Study
Group on Metadata Standards and Applications in Cultural Heritage,
the referee standard for resource management.
Together with the guidelines editing, a data collection to create
an archive to inform and to update already realized or going
to be realized projects and digitised serials, too has been
started.
At the moment it is possible to insert and/or update these data
directly in a online database.
