Activity Area for the development and dissemination of cataloguing standards and guidelines, and for training activities

The Activity Area for the development and dissemination of cataloguing standards and guidelines, and for training activities:

•  promotes and coordinates cataloguing activities at national level, particularly on behalf of the National Library Service
•  works out standard and guidelines for the cataloguing of modern books (authors, subjects, serials, non-book material) and is in charge of the dissemination of  national and international standards
• coordinates the SBN modern book service as regards problems relating to the SBN catalogue and Authority File
• manages the Index Authority Files and clean-up activities applying a direct interface procedure
• looks after maintainance activities concerning the direct interface procedure, modern book bibliographic management, cataloguing, subject indexing and classification as regards  the  Index and hubs software applications
• is in charge of import and export activities concerning the SBN modern book  databases
• looks after the translation of international standards
• manages training activities related to the fields of its own competence
• manages the library of the Institute and is responsible for the bibliography on SBN
