Working group on the applicability of REICAT in SBN

In 2010, ICCU, acting on a mandate of the SBN technical committee, established a working group staffed by librarians from various SBN institutions (Emilia Romagna regional administration, National Central Library of Rome, National Central Library of Florence, University of Padua – CAB, SBN library hub and cataloguing service, University of Florence, Veneto regional administration, Lombardy regional administration) in order to analyze the impact of the application of REICAT rules on the SBN protocol, on the new SBN MARC Index protocol and on hub softwares, both SBN and certified ones. For the latter ones, built with a different IT structure, especially as regards the database and the SBN Marc dialogue protocol, spot-checks were carried out on Aleph, SBN web, SOL.

The group produced a document that was presented to and discussed by the Committee.
This initial effort highlighted the need to distribute a memo to all hubs before drafting a new SBN MARC guide, in order to provide clear  indications in order to get uniform and coherent data.
