Working Group on SBN Linked Open Data

In 2014 the SBN technical and scientific Committee charged ICCU to establish a working group, whose task is to check the feasibility for publishing and accessing the SBN data according to Linked Open Data (LOD) technologies.

The Working Group, made up both of ICCU representatives and experts from the VAST LAB PIN laboratory (University Extension of Prato – Didactic and scientific services for the University of Florence (Polo universitario della città di Prato – Servizi didattici e scientifici per l’Università di Firenze)), has realized a logical and operating schema for generating and publishing SBN datasets as LOD.

The Group activities have focused on a concept mapping of a recordset, exported from the SBN OPAC in the UNIMARC format; the mapping is based on the properties and classes of the FRBRoo model (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records-object oriented), using the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM).
The data conversion in RDF format has been developed on the basis of this mapping, and an online interface prototype on an Aduna Sesame platform has been realized, for the management and search of SBN data in a LOD format.
At present, the prototype is being tested.
