Authority control activities related to the authors in the Index is part of the SBN Index maintenance activities project; these activities begun during the previous SBN Index valorization project.

In particular, author entries need correcting and control activities with regards to the form of name and to the related titles.
The definition of authority elements is necessary to improve data quality and make records easier to identify both for cataloguing purposes and for end users, thus preventing mistakes related to a heading element such as the author name, whose duplication multiplies the possibilities for errors in the title sub-heading.
