INDIGO - DataCloud

INDIGO - DataCloud develops an open source data and computing platform targeted at scientific communities, deployable on multiple hardware and provisioned over hybrid, private or public, e-infrastructures.  By filling existing gaps in PaaS and SaaS levels, INDIGO-DataCloud will help developers, resources providers, e-infrastructures and scientific communities to overcome current challenges in the Cloud computing, storage and network areas.

The INDIGO consortium, coordinated by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), brings together many of the most prominent institutions in the development, deployment and operation of distributed computing across Europe, very large public institutions, and top commercial providers and service developers all over Europe. In addition, relevant Research Communities have been selected by the consortium to act as pilot for requirements provisioning and validation of the middleware solutions developed by the project. This directly includes a very significant number of ESFRIs from different areas (Bioinformatics, Environmental studies, Earth System studies, Physics) as well as other important research fields with high demand for Big Data support.

In the project’s web site a catalogue is available  to allow resource providers and researchers from all disciplines, all around Europe with a practical guide to identify the best services to download and use to improve the quality of the research they are performing.

In the project, ICCU together with DARIAH represents the community of cultural heritage and alongside the representatives of other research communities involved in the project offered the requirements for application development. In particular, ICCU focused its interest  on the development of tools that facilitate the management of digital libraries.
