The project is coordinated by ICCU with the participation of eight partner countries: France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia and Spain in Europe; Egypt, Jordan and Turkey in the Mediterranean area.
INDICATE has a cooperation agreement with the DC-NET ERA-NET project.
The main goals of INDICATE are, on the one hand, the coordination of cultural heritage research opportunities brought about by e-Infrastructure in Mediterranean-area countries, and on the other, the development of coherent policies and best practices to regulate such research.
The INDICATE project aims to create and support a network of shared interests comprising experts and researchers in all relevant sectors, with long-term sustainability beyond the duration of the project.
The network shares experiences, promotes standards and guidelines, seeks a balance between best practices and policies, and acts as a channel for the transfer of knowledge from countries with experience in using e-infrastructures in the cultural heritage sector to countries that are just beginning to explore this field.
INDICATE focuses on developing new research communities, new policies and new relationships that add value to existing e-Infrastructures, through:
- the adoption of shared methods for support to Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHSS) through the use of e-Infrastructure;
- encouraging international cooperation in the networks of e-Infrastructure suppliers and users of AHSS applications and digital culture domains.
The action aims to launch pilot projects and case studies acting as templates for cultural institutions interested in using e-Infrastructure platforms.
INDICATE main impact will be on cultural cooperation, policy harmonization and research collaboration, with the aim of improving the efficiency and efficacy of projects on digital cultural heritage and e-infrastructures.
Cooperation will take place at European level, between EU countries and Mediterranean countries, and will go as far as involving Latin America and the Far East.
Some of the project’s main results include:
- the Paris Declaration, the INDICATE Consortium shared vision for the development of digital cultural heritage in future years
- the publication Handbook on virtual exhibitions and virtual performances - version 1.0 (August 2012)
- the publication Best practice for applying research pilots and use case studies to digital cultural heritage
