Europeana Collections 1914-1918: remkemering World War I

Europeana Collections 1914-1918: remembering World War I is a project funded by the European Union, through which various libraries in 8 European countries has digitized and made available on the Europeana a selection of items from their World War I collections on Europeana.

From the year 2014, the centenary of the beginning of the war, the project has made available online 400,000 digital items of historical interest related to the Great War, including: newspapers and magazines, maps, archive documents, videos, propaganda material, schoolbooks, broadsides, photographsand memorabilia (such as medals, coins, uniforms and flags), etc.
Students, researchersand simple citizens are able to query a number of disparate sources and blaze new paths in the historical reconstruction and interpretation of the Great War.

The project was launched in May 2011 and ended in April 2014.
As project partner, ICCU coordinated the Italian digital contents preserved in the Alessandrina University Library, the Library of Modern and Contemporary History and the Institute for the History of Italian Risorgimento through the national website 14-18: Documents and images from the Great War. The site draws together the most important collections of documents in Italy from 1915-1918 and served as the national aggregator for the sending of metadata to Europeana.

The data already sent and visible in Europeana, include 250,000 images from magazines, trench diaries, photographs (prints and negatives), posters, prints and other types of documents.
