Seminario CASPAR. Roma 12/1/2009

07.01.2009

Il giorno 12 gennaio 2009 l'ICCU ospiterà il seminario CASPAR (Cultural, Artistic and Scientific knowledge for Preservation, Access and Retrieval).

CASPAR Training Day for the Cultural Domain

All those involved in memory institutions are more and more faced with the problem of managing an increasing amount of Digital Objects (it does not matter whether they are “born digital” or are the “digital surrogate” of physical objects) and, more importantly, are faced with the problem of how to preserve those digital objects for future generations, in line with the main mission of the memory institutions.

The seminar will present in detail a real case study, in order for the attendees to get an understanding of the main digital preservation issues and challenges when applied to the Cultural Heritage sector, and an appreciation of the range of roles and responsibilities involved with digital preservation activities.

Target Audience

The seminar is mostly addressing practitioners and researchers from memory institutions such as archives, libraries, museums, repositories, government departments, legal and commercial sectors with an interest in the topic of preservation of digital objects that are in some way related to the cultural sector.

Participants will leave with an awareness of the relevance of preservation in the sector of Cultural Heritage, increasingly becoming (also) digital. Through the presentation of a practical experience from an actual use case, supported by demos and examples tailored to the actual user needs, participants will gain a basic knowledge of the OAIS reference model and an understanding of the preservation planning process.
