The RICA Commission

Through the Ministerial Decree of October 17, 1996, the Central Office for Books, Cultural Institutions and Publishing, upon ICCU request, established the Permanent commission for the updating and possible simplification of the rules for the compilation of alphabetical catalogues by author in Italian libraries. ICCU hosts both the commission activities and the secretariat.
The Commission, active since January 1997, after a careful critical examination of the text of the RICA rules (Italian rules for cataloguing by author), launched a new code called REICAT (Italian cataloguing rules), published in June 2009.

In drafting the code, the authors took into consideration international standards and documents, thoroughly examined  the FRBR model, carried out control activities together with Italian and foreign colleagues and experts, and established contacts with the IFLA (International Meeting of Experts on an International Cataloguing Code) working groups and the Joint Steering Committee for RDA (Resources Description and Access).
Public seminars were organized as the work went on, so as  to give  meeting opportunities to  librarians for information and discussion purposes.
