IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions)

The ICCU cooperates with international organisations working on the evolution, promotion and dissemination of cataloguing standards, metadata and library services, as a proviso for the development of bibliographic control.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), comprising associations of library and information professionals, of library and information services and of educational and research institutes, individual library and information services, and all kinds of organisations in the library and information sector as well as individual practitioners in the field of library and information science, is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession.

As an IFLA voting member, the ICCU takes part to the activities of the Cataloguing Section for the development of cataloguing rules, guidelines, and standards for bibliographic information for all types of material and media, and to those of the Rare Books and Special Collections Section, which provides a forum for discussion and exchange of information on matters of particular concern to rare book, manuscript, and special collections librarians, including the collection, preservation, description, and use of such materials, in all types of libraries worldwide.

The ICCU takes also part to the activities for the revision and update of the ISBD standard carried on within the ISBD Review Group.
